Athens, Ga's Drive By Truckers have released several critically acclaimed albums of gutsy, often ironic roots rock (1998's Gangstabilly, 1999's Pizza Deliverance, and the live effort Alabama Ass-Whuppin') before settling down to compose their unlikely magnum opus, Southern Rock Opera, a two-act, two-CD work based loosely on the history of Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Truckers latest studio release, A Blessing And A Curse. is their best effort to date. Patterson Hood announced via the band's website that the legendary "swamper" and their longtime friend Spooner Oldham, would be joining the band playing keyboards for a string of acoustic performances called "The Dirt Underneath Tour".
